VAX-D Spinal Decompression for Herniated Discs

Written By SunCoast SpineCare on May 4, 2018

If you have chronic low back pain, you know how frustrating it can be. You may have been searching for the best herniated disc treatment in Bradenton or Sarasota, Florida and wondering if anything, or anyone, can help.

Good news! VAX-D (Vertebral Axial Decompression) is a safe and non-invasive treatment for herniated discs as well as sciatica and other types of low back pain. VAX-D works by decompressing the spine.

What is VAX-D Spinal Decompression?

Spinal decompression using a VAX-D table is THE ONLY PROVEN method of herniated disc treatment that alleviates pain by creating more space between the disks in the spine. Herniated or bulging disks are aggravated when the bones in the spinal column (the vertebrae) press down on the disks.

Creating more space between the vertebrae relieves the pressure on the disks, thus reducing pain. VAX-D accomplishes this additional space through stretching the back. Now don’t confuse stretching the back and traction with VAX-D.  Traction has never been proven to decompress the discs and nerves as VAX-D successfully does.  This is why traction is no longer considered as treatment for disc problems.  VAX-D also works to relax the back muscles.

Research studies have shown that patients have experienced reduction in pain after VAX-D treatments, with a 71% success rate.

At SunCoast SpineCare in Bradenton, we use the original VAX-D spinal decompression table that most studies have been based on.  Please do not be fooled by the copycat versions of VAX-D which are called simply spinal decompression.

How Does VAX-D Work?

The patient lies face down on the VAX-D table and a comfortable harness is placed around the back. The back is gently stretched during the session, which can last from 30-60 minutes. The amount of stretch is computer controlled by the doctor or therapist.

Patients are fully clothed during the treatment, though it is recommended you wear comfortable, loose clothing to get the most benefits and for optimal comfort.

The recommended treatment frequency is 20-30 treatments 5 days per week. While this may seem like a significant time commitment, avoiding surgery and getting relief from pain makes it worth it!

Are You a Candidate for VAX-D Herniated Disc Treatment?

A full assessment must be completed before VAX-D treatment is recommended. Certain conditions are not treatable by VAX-D or are contraindicated. These include:

  • Spinal tumors
  • Vertebral Fractures
  • Spondylolisthesis-grade 3, 4
  • Osteoporosis-severe
  • Severe medical conditions
  • Pregnancy
  • Ankylosing spondylitis
  • Spinal Fusion with retained hardware
  • Spinal infections

If you do have one of these conditions, we can still help you and will discuss other options more suited for your particular situation.
